An initial dilution study (to define the diffuser section), dispersion, and recirculation of the brine discharge from the new desalination plant is carried out. The study will form part of the Environmental Impact Assessment for the new desalination plant. The discharge characteristics are: • Flow rate: 1.47 m3/s • Effluent salinity: 65.3 g/L • Effluent temperature: 13°C • Diffuser located at a depth of 10 m.
After calculating the diffuser section using the CORMIX (CORJET) and VISUAL PLUME (UM3) models, it is entered into the MOHID model to perform current modeling in the area (taking into account ocean currents, wind, tides, etc.) and to calculate the brine dispersion in the far field. A salinity study at the intake is included.
