The draft at the Raíces Quay is increased from the current 8.7 m to 14 m by extending the quay. Dredging is carried out on Category C contaminated material, so after an alternatives study, the sheet pile solution is selected. Environmental protection of the surroundings is of vital importance, as the works are located in NATURA 2000 areas: SAC ES1200055 and SPA ES0000318. The designed solution is summarised as follows: • Comprehensive alternatives study. • Design of combined front sheet pile wall (HZ 1180M D-14/AZ 20-700) and counter sheet pile wall (AZ 36-700 N). • Confinement of contaminated dredged material (85,000 m3). • Design of a relieving slab to reduce loads on the sheet pile wall. • New paving. • Utilities. A comprehensive Environmental Impact Assessment is included for the standard permitting procedure for the Project.
