MATHEMATICAL MODEL FOR THE PRE-FEASIBILITY STUDY OF THE SANITATION OF CAMPECHE BAY (MEXICO)

[bloque_categoria_proyecto]
Scope:
Pre-feasibility numerical modeling
Location:
Campeche (Mexico)

In support of the pre-feasibility study developed, a study of discharge dispersion is carried out using mathematical models (MOHID). Four different discharge cases are studied: • Secondary treatment 2,000 m from the coast • Tertiary treatment 500 m from the coast • Stormwater discharge for a 10-year return period and 3-hour intensity at the coast. • Stormwater discharge for a 10-year return period and 3-hour intensity for the future (year 2030) at the coast.
The discharge cases are simulated for the different wind and tide conditions existing in the study area, combining them depending on whether the goal is to simulate intense or calm conditions. It is concluded that both the discharge 500 m from the coast with tertiary treatment and the discharge 2,000 m from the coast with secondary treatment do not contaminate the nearby beaches (Los Petenes, Playa Centro, and Playa Bonita). In the case of stormwater, there is occasional Enterococcus contamination, but given the low occurrence of the studied rain episode, the resulting contamination is considered acceptable.
