RAINWATER SLUICEWAYS, ZAPILLO BEACH, MUNICIPALITY OF ALMERIA (SPAIN)

UNDERWATER PIPELINES

  • Start Date / End Date: 2008/2011
  • Place: ALMERIA, SPAIN
  • Scope: Construction Project
  • Description:

A construction project was completed for the rainwater sluiceways in the city of Almeria by means of a manifold parallel to the beach and various perpendicular manifolds which group different nozzle flow rates to the outlet chamber to a submarine outfall.

The characteristics of the submarine outfall are as follows:

        •    Material: PE100.
        •    Inside diameter: 3,000 mm
        •    Length of polyethylene: 372 m
        •    Flow rate: 8.6 m3/s
        •    Discharge: GRP piece and 2,400 mm DN swing check valve

In order to do the work properly and not damage the local bionomy, a detailed field study was conducted of the entire Almeria beachfront detecting meadows of Posidonea, Cynodocea, etc., and an outfall was designed that would create the lowest possible impact.
