MIRFA 2 REVERSE OSMOSIS (M2 RO) INDEPENDENT WATER PROJECT (ABU DHABI, UNITED ARAB EMIRATES)

Underwater pipelines

  • Place: ABU DHABI, UNITED ARAB EMIRATES
  • Scope: Tender project
  • Description:
The scope of works included different solutions for 80 and 120 MIGD plant capacities. For these solutions, the tasks developed included the verification of the suitability of the pumping station of the pre-existing demolished plant for the new one, the design of the outfall chamber and the design of the reject pipelines considering different discharge points (coastal, offshore or combined).
The final proposal were the following:
. For the 80 MIGD alternative: verification of the pre-existing pumping station, design of a circular outfall chamber and design of the onshore discharge through two HDPE OD 1,800 mm - SDR 30 (L = 2 x 2,210 m) ending where pre-existing ogee weir is located.
. For the 120 MIGD alternative: verification of the pre-existing pumping station, design of a rectangular weir which allowed the reject system to distribute the discharge flow simultaneously onshore through the pre-existing culvert and offshore through the new outfall pipeline made of GRP (ID 1,800 mm – L = 2,270 m) for the onshore stretch and HDPE (OD 1,600 mm SDR 26 – L = 3,500 m) for the offshore stretch.
