CONSTRUCTION PROJECT FOR THE SANTA EULALIA DESALINATION PLANT UNDERWATER PIPELINES (IBIZA)

UNDERWATER PIPELINES

  • Start Date / End Date: 2008/2011
  • Place: IBIZA (BALEARIC ISLANDS)
  • Scope: Detailed engineering
  • Description:

The project involved designing the seawater desalination plant intake and outfall underwater pipelines with part of the pipeline route via horizontal directional drilling and part supported on the seabed.

    The pipelines characteristics:

        •    Material: PE100.
        •    Intake outside diameter 1,000 mm
        •    Outfall outside diameter: 710 mm.
        •    Intake length 789m (388 m via HDD).
        •    Outfall length 462m (410 m via HDD) .
        •    45 m diffuser section comprised of 16 outlet ports.

A detailed study of the following aspects was conducted:

        •    The optimisation of the pipeline route, designing the horizontal directional drilling system.
        •    The sinking process.
        •    Intake structure and construction.
        •    Ballast weight design (1st and 2nd phase)
