DESIGN PROJECT OF ENLARGEMENT OF SANTA CRUZ DE LA PALMA BREAKWATER, LA PALMA (CANARY ISLANDS)
Marine works: Breakwater
- Place: Santa Cruz de La Palma, La Palma (Spain)
- Scope: Design Project for Construction
The harbour breakwater is enlarged 100 m so that very large cruise ships could berth safely at the attached quay. The enlarged breakwater with an attached quay are:• 27-meter high and 25 meter-wide caissons.• Foundation berm water depth of 62 m (LAT).• Crown wall reaching level +12,0 m with a wave return parapet.• 300 t bollards.
The following tasks were carried out:• Geotechnical stability calculations of the breakwater.• Caisson structural calculations.• Foundation mound protection design.• Berthing and mooring forces calculations.• Wave overtopping calculation.• Crown wall and quay capping beam structural design.• Replacing the current bollards of the existing quay.• Geotechnical stability check with Level III calculation methods.
