UNDERWATER PIPELINES

  • Start Date / End Date: 2012
  • Place: ATACAMA (CHILE)
  • Scope: Construction Project
  • Description:

This project included the construction design of the desalination plant underwater pipelines including an intake structure and diffuser section.

The characteristics of the pipe are as follows:

        •    Material: PE100.
        •    Definition of pipes: intake Øe=800 mm SDR 26 and outfall  Øe=560 mm SDR 26
        •    Length: 709 mm (outfall) and 510 mm (intake)
        •    Maximum flow rates: intake:  3.6 m3/s and outfall: 0.76 m3/s

A detailed study of the following aspects was conducted:

        •    Marine climate based on NOAA data.
        •    The optimisation of the pipeline route pursuant to EIS and running along the concession area.
        •    The sinking process.
